Sunderland v Liverpool: Late home goal unlikely to stop away win

Published:

Sunderland have been this season’s draw specialists, with a whopping 11 of their 20 matches in the Premier League so far ending in a share of the spoils.

While Gus Poyet’s side are proving difficult to beat, they aren’t going on to win many themselves and have a league-low one to their name at home.

With Liverpool enjoying their time in the away dressing room at the Stadium of Light, it’s quite easy to see why a Reds win is part of our three best bets for the match:

Sunderland to score the last goal @ 13/10

A lot has been made about Tottenham’s increased fitness under Mauricio Pochettino and their ability to finish games strong, but it’s actually the Black Cats who are the best side in the league for nabbing themselves late goals.

No team has scored more of their goals in the final 15 minutes of matches than Sunderland, who have netted 33 percent of their 18 in that period.

Liverpool to win @ 19/20

Despite their love of late drama, Poyet’s side haven’t been able to string too many wins together of late, prevailing in just one of their last 10.

Such form isn’t going to help them against a Liverpool side that have enjoyed their Stadium of Light visits recently, with five wins coming in their last eight trips there.

The Reds have also lost just once in their last eight Premier League outings.

Steven Gerrard to score at anytime @ 2/1

It was typical of Liverpool’s season so far that in the first game of Steven Gerrard’s farewell tour, he bagged himself a brace to extend his lead at the top of the club’s all-competition scoring chart this season and pose more questions over their decision to let him go.

Expect plenty more of those kind of performances as the season rumbles on and with form of four goals in his last two games (and six in the last nine), there’s no reason it can’t continue in the north east.
