Stoke City v QPR: Potters set to enjoy luck of the Ireland again

Published:

Without a point on the road in the Premier League this season, QPR head to Stoke with Potters fans no doubt relishing the visit of a team they will see as easy pickings for Mark Hughes’ men.

Ladbrokes has the Staffordshire hosts at 4/6 to pick up the win but with the Rs showing plenty of fight last time out against Champions League-chasing Manchester United, odds of 11/4 on a draw and even 9/2 on a Rangers victory may tempt the dreamers among us.

Fortunately we’ve got our Professor cap on ahead of this one and have come up with three rather tempting tips for your approval.

Stephen Ireland to score at any time @ 13/5

The loss of Bojan to an anterior cruciate ligament injury this week was a real blow for both Stoke and the ex-Barcelona man, who had started to find his feet in the Premier League of late.

But while the Spaniard’s injury is a blow, the Potters do at least have another in-form attacker in Stephen Ireland, who has scored three goals in Stoke’s last four competitive outings and could be the man to pop up with a goal against one of the top-flight’s worst defences.

Stoke City to win and both teams to score @ 11/4

While Hughes’ boys may be odds on to record a win against a QPR side yet to even record a draw on the road this term, the value could lie in backing the Potters to come out on top in a game where Rangers also find the net as well.

Harry Redknapp’s charges have scored in each of their previous three defeats on the road in the Premier League and got on the scoresheet the last time these two met.

Charlie Austin to score at any time @ 11/4

A lazy prediction it may be, but when it comes to picking out a goalscorer from the QPR ranks, few compare to would-be England international hopeful Austin, who has been in fine form for all season, scoring 13 goals in 19 Premier League outings.

More importantly, the 25-year-old has found the net in Rangers previous two away day outings in the top-flight and remains the Rs penalty-taker-in-chief.
