Southampton boss set for double summer swoop on old club

Since his arrival at St Mary’s Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has been linked with bids for several players at Feyenoord.

Chief among the supposed targets at his old club was midfielder Jordy Clasie but reports suggest the Saints manager is casting his eyes further down the pitch with a double defensive swoop set to be launched this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Koeman will bid to bring centre-backs Terrence Kongolo and Sven van Beek to the Premier League at the end of the current campaign.

Both players are 20-years-old and deemed huge prospects for the Dutch national team, with Kongolo already gaining World Cup experience under Louis van Gaal.

His involvement in the summer tournament led to speculation that the now-Manchester United boss would attempt to lure Kongolo to Old Trafford but with the emphasis very much on experience at the Red Devils a United bid has yet to materialise.

This has left the door open for Koeman and if Southampton can maintain their current form and earn a place in the Champions League it would be very difficult for either player to snub a move to England’s south coast.

Both players have made a decent number of appearances for the Feyenoord first team this season and Koeman is thought to have checked up on his former charges by taking in a De club aan de Maas game over the weekend.

Having been dumped out of the FA Cup by a revived Crystal Palace, Southampton can now focus all of their attention on breaking up the Premier League’s top four.

Koeman’s side are currently third in the table and priced at 5/4 to finish in the Champions League places, a price that could well drop if they beat Swansea at home this weekend as expected.
