Sony Open in Hawaii: Kirk fantastic value to go one better in 2015

It’s not all bad being a PGA Tour golfer. The next stop on the schedule is Honolulu, Hawaii, and one man in the field looks exceptional value to finish up the weekend with a traditional wreath around his neck and a winning share of $1,008,000.
Chris Kirk was only denied by one shot at the Waialae Country Club’s famous 7,044 yard, par 70 layout last season, beaten to the trophy by compatriot Jimmy Walker, whose final-round 63 proved unmatchable.
It’s no surprise to see Walker installed at odds of 14/1 ahead of 20/1-chance Kirk, especially as last season’s long-term FedExCup leader arrives off the back of a play-off defeat at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
However, at the quoted prices, Kirk gets the nod having finished inside the top 15 in all of his three previous starts on the Tour this season, where he signed off at the Hyundai with a sizzling 12-under-par round containing 10 birdies.
The double PGA Tour event winner of last year, who finished the 2014 wraparound campaign second in the final FedEx standings, appears particularly comfortable at Waialae where he finished tied for fifth the season prior as well.
Of the others to arrive hot off the press from good showings at the preceding Tournament of Champions – also staged on the Hawaiian isles – Russell Henley deserves a special each-way mention.
The 25/1-shot tied for third at the Kapalua Resort alongside Sony Open favourite Jason Day, who is a little too skinny minus more than half Henley’s odds at 12s.
With two top-five finishes from just three starts this year, the 2014 Honda Classic champion holds the 72-hole record of 256 at Waialae.
En-route to the 2013 Sony Open title the American shot three rounds of 63, to finish on an incredible score of -24.
