Price Boost: South Africa and West Indies get World Cup hike
There is now less than a month to wait before the cricket World Cup gets underway and in the lead up to the 50-over festival, Ladbrokes are set to offer some fantastic prices on various markets for the tournament.
The first features the prices on both South Africa and West Indies winning the competition being boosted when the two countries do battle in the third ODI of their ongoing series.
From 11 am on the day of the game, until the first wicket falls, South Africa will be available at 8/1 for World Cup glory – which is double what they currently sit at with the bookie – while the West Indies will be out from 12/1 to a massive 25s for a brief period.
Snapping up either price should be at the top of any potential punter’s to-do list, with AB de Villiers’ mob likely to be the more popular choice of the two.
As we’ve already indicated in our guide to the South African side heading to the World Cup, they rank as one of the strongest units and are second favourites, alongside India, to claim a first ever marquee 50-over trophy.
Stacked with experienced, aggressive batting and world-class bowling, the opportunity to back the Proteas at double their current odds is likely to be gobbled up quickly.
The West Indies on the other hand are slightly less of an attractive option, having played fast and loose in naming their squad without two senior pros in Keiron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo.
With a smattering of their best players still in the squad, there is a chance that the West Indies cause a shock, but the omission of Pollard and Bravo goes a long way to placing the side at the lower end of the betting.
