On-loan Manchester City striker hints at future away from Celtic
Celtic appear to be no closer to completing a permanent deal for on-loan Manchester City striker John Guidetti with fresh quotes from the Swedish youngster suggesting he could yet be holding out for an offer from the Premier League.
The Bhoys had hoped to sign the striker this month having been impressed by/with the 22-year-old since his arrival at Parkhead just after the close of the summer transfer window.
Guidetti is in the last few months of his contract with City and could be available for a nominal fee this month or alternatively for nothing in the summer.
But despite Celtic manager Ronny Deila repeatedly expressing his desire to tie the Stockholm-born star to a permanent deal with the club, no agreement has yet been reached, sparking rumours the striker could looking to return to England.
Southampton could be one potential destination for the Swede, with the youngster previously thriving under Ronald Koeman during a season-long loan with the Dutchman’s previous club Feyenoord back in 2012.
And Guidetti did little to rebuff the growing rumours in a recent interview, instead reacting coyly when quizzed on whether he is going to sign permanently for the Hoops.
“My agent will do what he does best,” he said.
“He doesn’t tell me to take the ball with the inside of my foot on the pitch, so I don’t tell him how to do his job. You don’t bring an electrician into your house and tell him how to fit the plugs. It’s his job and I trust him to do it.
“I am not worried. I am just so happy to wear the Celtic shirt. The rest will work itself out, it always does.
“I’ll just try to stay fit and strong and the goals will come back. Everyone can be calm.”
Guidetti has scored 11 goals in 18 appearances for Celtic so far this season and is 19/5 with Ladbrokes to score two or more against Hamilton Academical this weekend.
