Newcastle set for second Spanish raid after Ayoze Perez success

John Carver could be set to make his first signing as manager of Newcastle United this month after the Toon were linked with a move for Racing Santander youngster David Concha.

The 18-year-old can operate as either a winger or supporting striker and has made 23 Segunda Division appearances for Los Verdiblancos, having come through the club’s youth academy setup, scoring once for the first-team.

But any Magpies fans hoping to see the midfielder in action this season could be left disappointed with The Chronicle reporting that the club will most likely loan the attacker back to Santander for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle have already enjoyed some notable success after recruiting from the Spanish second tier with striker Ayoze Perez thriving at the club following a €2m move to the north east from Tenerife over the summer.

The 21-year-old has already netted five goals for the Toon this term, having been thrust into first team action ahead of schedule, while first choice striker Papiss Cisse continues to recover from injury.

Concha’s potential arrival, meanwhile, could spell bad news for Remy Cabella, who has struggled to adjust to the demands of the Premier League during his debut campaign in the English top-flight.

Signed from Montpellier back in July of last year for a cool £8.8m, the winger has so far made 23 appearances for Newcastle without making much in the way of an impact.

Out-muscled and out-manoeuvred on several occasions for the Magpies this term, the recruitment of a young Spanish understudy could yet pave the way for a move elsewhere.
