Meet the Ajax and Poland hotshot Newcastle United have eyes for

Newcastle United chief scout Graham Carr is heading to Amsterdam this Sunday to take a closer look at Ajax striker Arkadiusz Milik, fresh reports claim.

The Magpies talent spotter is reportedly planning to take in Ajax’s Eredivisie clash with Feyenoord, according to The Chronicle, with the Toon man thought to be assessing the Dutch side’s 20-year-old forward.

Newcastle are in the market for a new striker, having seen summer signings Emmanuel Riviere and Facundo Ferreyra fail to impress at St James’ Park.

Hamburg’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga is thought to be one potential target for the Premier League outfit this January, with the 23-year-old’s Bundesliga employers willing to listen to offers for the striker, but the club are also keen to take a look at Milik ahead of a potential summer move.

Currently on loan with the Amsterdam giants from parent club Bayer Leverkusen, the situation surrounding the Pole is slightly complicated by the nature of his deal with Ajax, which gives the Dutch side the first option to sign the striker on a permanent deal at the end of the campaign.

Milik could prove a canny addition, however, having scored 17 goals in just 16 appearances for The Lancers so far this season.

A Poland international with 14 caps to his name, the Tychy-born star has scored six goals for the national side to date.

That tally includes the opener in Poland’s 2-0 win over Germany in a Euro 2016 qualifier last year which marked the first time the White and Reds had ever beaten Die Mannschaft.

No fee has yet been mentioned but Carr will be hoping to see the Pole make a significant impact against Ajax’s Rotterdam rivals.

The Amsterdam club sit second in the Eredivisie at present, four points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven but eight points clear of Feyenoord in third.

Milik has gone four games without scoring for Ajax, having previously netted three in two for the Dutch side, including a goal against APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League.
