Manchester City lead the way in transfer betting for Ross Barkley

Published:

Ross Barkley could be edging ever closer to the Goodison Park exit with the Everton midfielder now 4/1 with Ladbrokes to move to Manchester City this January.

The move in the betting comes despite Toffees boss Roberto Martinez previously dismissing any suggestion that the 21-year-old could depart the Merseyside club this month.

“All our best performers, even if they get lots of attention, no one is going to be going,” he told reporters earlier this week.

However rumours persist that the midfielder may look to move away from the club with Everton in the midst of a miserable run in the Premier League.

The Toffees have lost four on the bounce in the top-flight and currently sit 13th in the Premier League some 15 points off a Champions League place and only four off the relegation zone.

Everton remain in the mix for Europa League glory though, with the Toffees 16/1 to lift the trophy come the end of the season after being drawn against Swiss side Young Boys in the last-32 of the competition.

However with Manchester City able to offer Barkley the opportunity to play in the Champions League on a regular basis a move could yet be on the cards with media reports suggesting the Sky Blues could table a bid of anywhere up to £45m for the England international.

Jamie Carragher’s previous suggestion that Liverpool should look to replace Gerrard with the Everton man appears to hold little weight, however, with the Reds out at 25/1 with the bookmaker.

Manchester United represent City’s biggest rivals for the capture of the Toffees youngster with the Red Devils 8/1 in the betting.

Arsenal and Chelsea, meanwhile, can be backed at 33/1 respectively with Ladbrokes.
