Liverpool v Bolton: Trotters worthy of a double chance wager

Published:

Liverpool and Bolton take to the airwaves early on Saturday evening to contest a place in the FA Cup fifth-round draw and there’s reason enough to believe a shock is plausible at Anfield.

The match odds would appear to dispel the theory as foolish, though, with Ladbrokes labelling the visiting Championship side as near no-hopers at 8/1, their illustrious hosts heavily odds-on for the win at 3/10 and a draw completing the overall picture at 9/2.

However, as our headline bet on the 17:30 kick-off suggests, we don’t agree that this one is as clear cut.

Bolton and draw (Double Chance) @ 11/5

Liverpool’s act is generally thought to have been livened up in recent times and while that may ring true, they’ve still only completed a single home victory in six games.

Chelsea in midweek were the latest to do what Leicester, Arsenal, Basel and Sunderland were able to achieve in recent visits, which was hold the Reds to a draw, while only Swansea during that sequence were defeated.

Therefore a Bolton side who arrive in fairly fine fettle themselves – having won seven of their last dozen matches in all competitions, losing only once – could at least force the replay.

The frantic pace of that midweek Capital One Cup semi-final could have some bearing on the comparative sharpness and selection of Brendan Rodgers’ team as well.

Both teams to score: Yes @ 19/20

Liverpool’s recent ability to pick up clean sheets on the road hasn’t been mirrored at home, where this bet would have landed in each of their last five outings and in four of Bolton’s last five matches to boot.

Darren Pratley to score anytime @ 6/1

Not a man known for a high goals return, the former Swansea midfielder has tapped into a rich vein of form in a Trotters shirt of late.

Pratley’s winner at Hillsborough last time out was his fourth goal in his last six appearances for Neil Lennon’s men.
