Ipswich Town v Southampton: ex-Saints star tipped to shine

| 14.01.2015

The Tractor Boys’ 10-game unbeaten run may have come to a shuddering halt with an unfortunate 1-0 defeat to Derby at Portman Road over the weekend but Ipswich will be anything but pushovers when Southampton come calling this week.

Ladbrokes is offering 17/20 on the Saints marching on into the next round with a win in 90 minutes while you can also get 13/5 on this FA Cup replay requiring extra time.

Ipswich, meanwhile, are 10/3 to triumph on the night though with the two teams previously playing out a stalemate at St Mary’s you may be better served by one of the following three tips.

Under 1.5 goals to be scored @ 9/4

Southampton may be flying high in the Premier League at present but they’ve kept things reasonably tight on the road of late with under 1.5 goals scored in five of their last seven away games in all competitions coming into this encounter.

With Ipswich coming off the back of a 1-0 loss and with three clean sheets from their last five at home, we could be in for a close contest in Suffolk this week.

0-0 Half-time score @ 7/4

The game may be being broadcast on the BBC this week but you may want to consider avoiding the first half here if Southampton’s recent away day form is anything to go by.

Goalless first halves have been a feature of four of the Saints’ last five games played on the road, while Ipswich went in at the break with the score 0-0 in their last home game.

David McGoldrick to score anytime @ 11/4

A former Saints player with something of a point to prove, McGoldrick has been in fine form in front of goal for Ipswich of late and looked lively in the weekend defeat to Derby.

The 27-year-old has netted in two of Town’s last three wins and as the team’s penalty taker looks a great tip to get on the scoresheet in the event Ipswich make a game of things.
