Hipster Tipster: Hell Hath No Fury like a David Moyes Scorned

David Moyes, Everton 2011

With the Germans and Italians taking a “mid-season break” during the festive period, I was forced to gorge on the seemingly endless feast of English football action and in the process develop a new appreciation for a much-maligned Scotsman: David Moyes.

So you can imagine my delight when the ex-Everton man pulled off a bit of tactical wizardry to claim a 1-0 win away at Barcelona last weekend – I nearly fell off my IKEA Poang recliner!

After cleaning the remnants of spilled Fairtrade Bombay mix that had been scattered across my carpet in the wake of that result I decided it was high time that Moyes’ Sociedad side were included in my list of weekly tips.

So here they are and a few more besides!

Real Sociedad to beat Granada @ 13/8

Half of all the points Sociedad have racked up in La Liga this season have come against Barca, Atletico Madrid and the mighty Real so maybe Moyes should try pretending Granada are a team with title aspirations rather than one that is winless in six games.

Olympiakos to beat Xanthi 2-0 @ 5/1

With Moyes’ old Champions League foe Michel sacked and replaced by Vitor Pereira the reigning Greek champs will be looking to beat Xanthi here and after winning 2-0 on their two previous visits they are a tempting price to do the same again.

Bordeaux to beat Monaco @ 4/1

Managed by another Champions League legend in ex-Bayern man Willy Sagnol, Bordeaux may not have been in vintage form of late but they look a great price to beat the same Monaco side they smashed 4-1 earlier this season.

Barcelona to draw with Atletico Madrid @ 3/1

The Catalans may be back on the march after hammering Elche in the Copa del Rey but the masterful Diego Simeone won’t care and with Atleti picking up draws in five of the last six meetings between the two, Messi could be set for another bad night at the office.

Napoli to beat Juventus @ 19/10

With just one win from their last six, the Old Lady have looked decidedly wobbly of late and could be set for a miserable night in Naples having lost on their last visit to the Stadio San Paolo – arrivederci to the Bianconeri’s title chances methinks!
