Crystal Palace v Tottenham: Kane-inspired visitors to ruin Pardew homecoming

Published:

The ticker tape and bunting will be out at an expectant Selhurst Park to welcome new Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew, but unfortunately for the returning FA Cup hero of yesteryear, his homecoming coincides with the visit of bang-in-form Tottenham.

Despite a stirring win down on the white cliffs of Dover in the third round of the FA Cup, such a success over non-league opposition is not much of a gauge where the Premier League is concerned.

After all, the motive for Pardew’s appointment is the Eagles’ dire league form, without a win since a mediocre Liverpool outfit were beaten 3-1 when Christmas shopping didn’t even feature on the vast majority of men’s to-do lists in late November.

Five points have been picked up in the ensuing eight games where draws have become the norm, including a 0-0 at White Hart Lane and parity can be backed at 12/5 again in the reverse fixture.

However, punters can’t have missed the charge-of-the-Lilywhites brigade lately, spearheaded by goal-scoring ace Harry Kane and culminating in an astonishing 5-3 win over leaders Chelsea on New Year’s Day.

A third straight away victory in the top-flight for Spurs, who’ve now won six of their last nine Premier League matches, is therefore the way to go here at 11/10, rather than the romantic notion of 13/5 on Pardew’s new charges.

That man Kane is an integral part of this Spurs’ surge towards the top four, notching five in as many league games for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Given the England candidate has broken the deadlock in the first and fourth minutes away from home during that run, 4/1 on Kane scoring first and 9/4 on the wincast look brilliant bets.

Meanwhile, given Tottenham’s last five road victories in all competitions have arrived by the same 2-1 scoreline, a sixth at 15/2 is more than a stab in the dark.
