Celebrity Big Brother: Support for outspoken Katie Hopkins continues

“I don’t like fat people, and I’m not a fan of gingers”. It’s fair to say that Katie Hopkins wasted no time in playing up to here pantomime villain persona from the word go in Wednesday’s Celebrity Big Brother launch night.

Picked to cast her eye over her fellow housemates and choose the ‘least entertaining’ contestants to face the first public vote, Hopkins began her critique in a manner only she knows how.

She described Ex On the Beach star Chloe Goodman as having “two assets and they are both on show”, and former Coronation Street actor Ken Morley as looking like he had been “let out of the care home”.

Amazingly, the acid-tongued columnist seems to be winning popularity with the public.

An influx of money has seen Hopkins cut to 5/1 third-favourite, having been a huge 16/1 first thing on Wednesday morning.

Ahead of her in the market are reality show veterans Keith Chegwin at 11/4 (from 7/2), and Nadia Sawalha (4/1 from 5/1).

Motormouth Hopkins may have competition to be the most vocal in the ‘twisted fairytale’-themed house with RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage and celebrity gossip merchant Perez Hilton both seemingly desperate for the limelight.

Visage has seen some support in the market, shortening from 16/1 at the show’s launch, to 10/1, 12 hours later, and could be a dark horse for the win.

Meanwhile, Hilton’s appeal could wear thin for viewers.

Dashing around, welcoming in each new housemate as if he had known them for years, he reeled off their back-story to the others like Michael Aspel on This is Your Life.

The producers could have put a member of the baying audience into the house and he would have known who they were.

But while there were winners in the popularity stakes in the opening show, there were bound to be losers.

The aforementioned Chloe was one of the unlucky two chosen to face the first eviction, and saw her odds to win drift out to 50/1 (from 12/1).

Against her will be 80s RnB legend Alexander O’Neal.

At times, the 61-year-old seemed lost with all the rabble going on around him, and his chances of sticking it out till the end are well-represented in his 33/1 price to claim glory.

There is, however, a long way to go and we can expect plenty more twists and turns, the like of which only Big Brother knows how.
