Beyonce leads Sam Smith in Album of the Year betting at Grammys

The undisputed queen of US pop, Beyonce, looks on course to strike a blow for divas everywhere at this year’s Grammy Awards with Mrs Jay-Z the runaway favourite to claim the Album of the Year gong.

Ladbrokes have the “Crazy in Love” songstress as the 11/10 favourite to claim the award for her 2014 opus “Beyonce” which has already sold some five million copies worldwide since its release.

The female vocalist could yet face stiff competition from the British invasion though, with Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith both in the running to land the award.

Sheeran is the second favourite to win at odds of 7/4 to pick up the Grammy Award for Album of the Year with “X” which has already sold three million copies globally and spawned two UK number ones and a further three top 20 hits stateside.

Smith, meanwhile, represents the dark horse for glory at 7/1, with the album “In The Lonely Hour” which has already shifted over two million copies and seen the Londoner claim two UK number one singles and another two top five hits in the US.

Beck could yet surprise though, with the veteran alternative US rocker a similar 7/1 to win with “Morning Phase” an album that has already garnered critical acclaim as the “Loser” star’s first LP release in some six years.

Pharrell Williams is bringing up the rear at 12/1 to win the award, with the rapper/singer’s latest effort “Girl” which has proven popular with fans across the world.

Better known for his production work and as part of the collective N.E.R.D, Williams scored a major global hit with the song “Happy” earlier this year, something that helped propel his new album up the charts.

But while Beyonce’s nearest challengers may be Sheeran and Smith, backing Beck to come out on top could yet prove a worthy bet with the bookmaker.
