Australian Open: Radwanska in danger of following Federer on Day 6

Published:

While most of us will be tucked up in bed with extra blankets, Down Under the tennis action will just be getting underway this Saturday in altogether warmer climes and we’ve got the Australian Open bets to place before you hit the hay.

Many big names will be taking to Melbourne Park’s show courts on day six, though not Roger Federer mind, after his shock third-round loss to world number 46 Andreas Seppi.

Here’s how we see some of Saturday’s drama unfolding, starting with match one on Rod Laver Arena.

Varvara Lepchenko v Agnieszka Radwanska: Over 20.5 games @ evens

Those punters more interested in odds-against wagers may actually be rewarded for a braver bet on Lepchenko ending Radwanska’s tournament early at 10/3.

These players met twice on this surface last season and it was the American who ran out the winner in Stanford and Seoul, with both matches going the distance.

The caution in the tale is how well the Pole dispatched Johanna Larsson in round two, 6-0, 6-1, which makes the total-games wage the safer option.

Jerzy Janowicz to beat Feliciano Lopez (-3.5) @ evens

The second match up on Margaret Court Arena features 12th seed Lopez who could be considered a little fortunate to still be in the hat.

His previous opponent, Adrian Mannarino, was a tie-break away from expelling the Spaniard in straight sets before retiring through heat exhaustion in the fourth.

These two have never met, but Janowicz has won three of his four matches on hard courts early this season compared to 1/5 on Lopez, before that win by default.

Gilles Simon to beat David Ferrer @ 9/4

The Frenchman scored a notable victory over the Spaniard at last year’s US Open, beating him quite comfortably in four sets.

Having not dropped a set yet, compared to the two surrendered by Ferrer in the opening rounds, Simon looks a great price to take the ninth seed’s scalp at successive Grand Slams.
