A Premier League weekend always promises drama and excitement by the ferry load, and as the 20 clubs draw battleslines for round 22, we pick out another five storylines we’d love to see unfold.
1. Aston Villa to score a goal against Liverpool
This isn’t driven by a vendetta against Liverpool, rather sympathy for long-suffering Villa fans who’ve handed over their hard-earned coin to witness their beloved team score just seven times at Villa Park all season.
It’s four league games since a net was rippled by Villa home or away, but at least they’ve scored the first goal in five of their last six meetings with Liverpool, a bet which is available at 8/5 with Ladbrokes.
2. A struggling team to beat a so-called big side
Plenty of potential coupon busters lie in wait and being the Premier League one of them is bound to happen.
Villa are 7/2 to beat Liverpool, QPR are 17/4 to beat Manchester United, Swansea are 11/2 shots to defeat Chelsea and Sunderland start 9/2 outsiders to leave Tottenham with the points.
3. Arsenal beating Manchester City
Only Stoke have successfully raided the Etihad this season, while Arsenal were stuffed 6-3 in this fixture last time they made the trip, contributing to the Gunners’ lengthy price of 7/2.
However, there’s something so unfair about the way City have just flexed their financial biceps to strip Swansea of their best player (Wilfried Bony), which adds satisfaction to a possible upset for the neutral.
4. Sergio Aguero returning to the starting XI
In the same breath, any football fan should welcome the return to full fitness of arguably the Premier League’s most gifted player. Calm down Arsenal fans.
5. Leicester’s resurgence to continue
The Foxes couldn’t record a win for love nor money before Christmas, but the bottom-placed side have now taken seven of the last nine points and are 13/8 to see off the Potters at the King Power Stadium.
