Aston Villa willing to roll dice on Man City outcast in January

Aston Villa’s desperate need for an injection of attacking impetus this season has led the club to pursue Manchester City misfit Scott Sinclair in January.
Since Sinclair swapped the Liberty Stadium for the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2012, it is fair to say the move hasn’t quite worked out for the former Chelsea trainee.
In fact, that would be the understatement of 2015 so far, as Sinclair has only started three games during his two-and-a-half year spell at City and made 19 appearances overall.
However, as Sinclair showed at Swansea before and West Brom on loan latterly, the pacy winger can be a real threat to defences.
With Villa’s pitiful return of 11 Premier League goals after 20 games, any players who can bring about an increase either by assisting or netting themselves will be welcomed eagerly by Paul Lambert and the suffering fans alike.
Sinclair bagged a very respectable tally of 28 goals from 82 Swansea appearances, including eight Premier League strikes from 38 outings during the 2011/12 season.
Villa somehow find themselves in 12th ahead of their visit to Leicester, though that hasn’t stopped Lambert becoming the subject of fan backlash in recent weeks.
The Scot is 7/1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave as a result, so he’s likely to live or die by his January purchases.
Sinclair is thought to be available for as little as £2.5m and given Villa’s crippling goals shortage, it’s a gamble which could pay off.
