Arsenal could miss out on Sissoko as PSG become odds-on favourites

Arsenal fans could be set for another frustrating January transfer window with PSG emerging as the favourites to sign Moussa Sissoko, according to Ladbrokes.

The Newcastle United midfielder has long been linked to the North London club with manager Arsene Wenger thought to be a keen admirer of the Frenchman’s talents.

Arsenal were rumoured to be preparing a January bid for the Toon star but those plans appear to have been scuppered with the Parisiens emerging as contenders to sign Sissoko this month.

The Ligue 1 champions are 2/5 with Ladbrokes to sign the midfielder this month while the Gunners can be backed at a distant 16/1 to land the 25-year-old, having previously led the way in the betting.

Newcastle have reportedly slapped a £25m price tag on the France international – a fee Arsenal are likely to baulk at – and it could prove to be another difficult couple of weeks for Gunners fans.

The London club remain the front-runners to sign Real Madrid star Isco, with Arsenal 7/2 to recruit the Spanish international but with some sources suggesting that it could take as much as £64m to prise the player away from the Bernabeu, a deal still looks some way off.

Newcastle, meanwhile, face an uphill struggle to hold on to Sissoko with the Magpies 6/4 to keep the midfielder on beyond January.

Liverpool also remain outsiders to recruit the Frenchman with Ladbrokes offering 16/1 on the Reds recruiting the attacker in the coming weeks.

Signed from Ligue 1 side Toulouse back in January 2013 for a fee of around £8.8m, Sissoko has made 78 appearances for Newcastle to date, scoring nine goals.

A series of impressive showings for the Toon last term saw Sissoko called up to the France squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he netted once for Les Bleus in a 5-2 group stage win over Switzerland.
