Arsenal leading the chase for unsettled PSG striker this January

Arsenal may have become a club synonymous with inactivity during the January transfer window of late but that hasn’t stopped them emerging as the favourites to sign PSG striker Edinson Cavani this month, according to Ladbrokes.

The bookmaker has the London club priced at 5/2 to recruit the Uruguayan in the next couple of weeks with the South American star rumoured to be unhappy in Paris.

Reports have surfaced suggesting that the 27-year-old is unhappy at playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the club, with manager Laurent Blanc preferring the Swede in the much-coveted central attacking role.

Ibrahimovic’s presence in that position has seen Cavani forced to play out wide on the flank for the Ligue 1 champions with the former Napoli man displeased at being pushed into the role by the club.

The Uruguayan is also thought to be unhappy with life in Ligue 1 after being sent off during a league game against Lens after celebrating a goal with a “gun-toting” gesture that prompted the player to become embroiled in a row with the referee.

And Cavani’s problems at PSG have not ended there with the South American fined and suspended for two games along with Argentine Ezequiel Lavezzi after missing a mid-season training camp held by Blanc in Morocco.

Valued at £64m by some news providers, the striker’s price tag would most likely need to be lowered if Arsenal at to complete any deal.

However, the Gunners look the clear favourites to land the ex-Napoli man with the north London side some way ahead of nearest challengers Liverpool in the Ladbrokes market with the Merseysiders a distant 16/1 to land the Uruguayan with Manchester United out at 20/1.

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Juventus are also available at 20/1 while those confident of the striker remaining at the Parc des Princes beyond January can get 2/7 on such an outcome with Ladbrokes.
