AFCON: Quarter Finals to offer yet more close-fought games
The nature of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations can be summarised by the pricing for Saturday’s first quarter-final, which sees both Congo and Congo DR priced at 7/4 to win their quarter-final clash.
AFCON 2015 has seen a total of 12 draws (at the time of writing), with Congo DR emerging from their group without a win to their name.
The quarter-final stages could see the tournament burst into life, however, and here are three of the best bets for Saturday’s games.
Both sides have reached the knock-out stages with unbeaten records but with just one win each this promises to be another tight affair.
Ahmed Akaichi is the tournament’s joint top scorer with two and having opened the scoring on two occasions looks a safe bet to do so again here, but having conceded in their last five games Les Aigles de Carthage won’t have it all their own way.
The hosts have scored in five of their last seven outings so expect them to make Tunisia work hard for the win.
While both sides are tipped to score in the above bet, don’t expect either side to come out blazing.
Five of Tunisia’s last eight games have been goalless at the break and the same can be said for three of Equatorial Guinea’s last five.
Both sides may be priced at 7/4 but with two wins and a draw to their name it is Congo who look the form side and should be backed to progress here.
The Red Devils have lost just one of their last four meetings with their neighbours, including in the 2013 edition of this tournament, and with Thievy Bifouma and Yannick Bolasie both in form goals look likely at either end.
Thus, with the competition throwing up all manner of tight affairs so far, a 2-1 win for Congo looks a solid bet at the odds.
