3 New England Patriots to watch out for at Super Bowl XLIX

Published:

For the majority of the time that the New England Patriots have been a great NFL side, Bill Belichick has been their coach and Tom Brady his quarterback.

As the buildup to Super Bowl XLIX in Arizona reaches fever pitch the pair are stood, front and centre, infront of the “deflategate” controversy.

As Belichick and Brady dominate the pre-match hype, these three men haven’t had much of the spotlight. Until now, that is:

Darrelle Revis

Revis was Richard Sherman before the vaunted Seahawks defender existed. The 29-year-old plays the cornerback position differently to his rival, used as a soccer-style man-marker on the opposition’s number one wide receiver, while Sherman sticks exclusively to one part of the field.

Although Revis doesn’t have the stats his opposite number does, he is more than enough of a threat to Seattle’s offensive plans.

LeGarrette Blount

Blount was picked up by the Patriots (for a second stint) mid-season after he was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers for leaving the field before a game had officially ended.

He has quickly become a central figure in New England’s offense, registering more yards and touchdowns in five games with his new side than he did in 11 as a Steeler.

Rob Gronkowski

While Blount is the undoubted leader of the running game, 25-year-old tight end Gronkowski is the boss from the receiving corps.

Heading to his second career Super Bowl appearance, the New York native is in far better shape than when he played injured in his 2011 debut.

In good form with 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns in the regular season, expect Brady to target his number one receiver often.
