The Saints have a habit of getting their noses in front when they play Manchester United, having got the scoreboard rolling in four of their last five top-flight meetings with the Red Devils.
They have continued that fast-starting attitude in general this season too and have scored the first goal of the game in half of their 14 games in the league.
Games against their European-chasing rivals haven’t gone well for Ronald Koeman’s side this season, with defeats to Manchester City and Arsenal coming in their last two games.
However, if there is one top-six side that provide a glimmer of hope for victory it is Manchester United on the road.
Louis van Gaal’s side have only won one of their last 10 away matches and have claimed just six out of 25 Premier League points on their travels.
The United and England skipper is on a fine run of form having netted five times in his last four games for club and country and eight in his last nine.
He should fancy his chances of continuing the scoring streak against the Saints, who he has scored five league goals against in as many outings.
