Sack Race: Pearson favourite to go despite Wenger protests

After trouble flared in the wake of Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat to Stoke you could be forgiven for thinking the Gunners were a club in crisis and manager Arsene Wenger was a shoo in to be the next Premier League manager to leave his position.
However, some post-weekend perspective shows that the Emirates outfit are still just four points behind fourth-placed West Ham despite losing to the Potters at the Britannia Stadium, where in truth they have always struggled for positive results.
Wenger’s price in the Sack Race has dropped, but at 14/1 and having consistently had his side competing while running a tight ship it’s clear to see that the Frenchman will be allowed to leave on his own terms and will at least see out the remainder of the current campaign.
The same may not be true of Leicester boss and evens shot Nigel Pearson, however, after the Foxes boss landed himself in hot water after getting into it with some of his own fans.
While he may claim he was protecting himself and his team, apparently telling a ticket-buying supporter to “f**k off and die” is unlikely to endear the manger to the Foxes’ board, especially with the club languishing at the bottom of the league without a win in 10 games.
Leicester appear to be standing by their man for the moment – but for how long?
In the way of competition, Pearson really only has his West Brom counterpart Alan Irvine to contend with at 7/2.
The Baggies boss is faring only slightly better than his Foxes rival, wining just one of his last 10 games to leave Albion above the relegation zone by a single point.
A busy festive schedule will see the Hawthorns club take on fellow strugglers Aston Villa and QPR before tough clashes with champions Manchester City, Stoke and high flying West Ham.
Just how well Irvine negotiates the next few weeks could well determine his future.
