Rejuvenated Man United can still win Premier League, says in-form midfielder
Manchester United have clicked into gear at just the right time and could still beat Chelsea and champions Manchester City to the Premier League title this year.
That is according to Red Devils midfielder Marouane Fellaini who has himself seen a huge turnaround in form this season.
United could not have envisaged a poorer start life under Louis van Gaal, suffering their worst start to a domestic campaign since 1986, but despite a raft of injuries to big-name players the Old Trafford outfit have now won four games on the bounce to put themselves back into the top four.
Many United fans would be happy to just be back in the running for a Champions League place after the disastrous seventh-place finish under David Moyes last year.
But Fellaini believes that despite trailing league leaders Chelsea by 11 points, his side can still challenge for honours.
After scoring his first Old Trafford goal to set United on their way to a 2-1 win over Stoke, the towering Belgian said: “We know each other a lot better now, we know the manager and the staff. We know the philosophy of the manager, we train hard as well, so we have to continue like that.
“I think we wait for a mistake (from Chelsea), but we have to look at us, we have to take it game by game and we will see after – after Boxing Day we have a lot of games and we have to keep winning. We can still challenge.”
United remain 25/1 outsiders to win the league, but that price has dropped from 40/1 just two weeks ago and could fall further if and when Chelsea finally slip up.
The Blues face a tough trip to St James Park this weekend and United are 6/4 favourites to claim three points against Southampton and close the gap should Jose Mourinho’s men fail to win.
