Price Boost: Gerrard boosted to put Reds in front at Man United

Manchester United may be favourites to beat Liverpool at Old Trafford this weekend but if anyone looks likely to upset the odds it is Steven Gerrard.

Mr Liverpool loves nothing more than getting one over the Red Devils and has proved pretty adept at doing just that over the years.

This hasn’t put Ladbrokes off boosting the Reds captain to open the scoring this weekend, however, with the bookmaker enhancing the midfielder’s odds from 10/1 to a huge 14/1.

With the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Juan Mata likely to be on the pitch Gerrard may not seem the obvious choice for first goal scorer but the stats suggest otherwise.

Gerrard has netted an impressive eight goals in the last 15 meetings between the two sides and has recently taken to opening the scoring.

Even when United ran out comfortable 3-1 winners in the teams’ pre-season friendly in the US it was Gerrard who got the ball rolling.

That strike means that he has hit the opening goal in the last four games that he has scored against the Red Devils.

United may be the 4/5 favourites to make it six successive wins in the Premier League and after crashing out of Europe with a home defeat to Basel Liverpool may not tempt at 10/3.

But with his record against the Reds’ bitter rivals and after smashing a spectacular free-kick on his last outing Gerrard could prove the bet of the day.
