PDC World Darts: Lewis to flex 180 muscles in opener

The final day of darting action before Christmas sees the first round come to a conclusion with Mervyn King and Adrian Lewis in action.
With the two-time World Champion a heavy favourite to progress in his opening match of this year’s festivities, we’ve found some better value as part of our three best bets for the day’s action.
The Dutch Destroyer’s World Championship career has developed into one of rare humiliation but few late surges, having never been dumped out in the opening round of the tournament but only appearing in one quarter final.
Van Der Voort should keep that first-round immunity intact against The Highlander, who is enduring a torrid year having won just 47 percent of his matches, well below his career mark of 60.
King arrives at Ally Pally having lost just one of his last five outings, to Phil Taylor no less, and with a solid record of just one first-round defeat in seven World Championship appearances since 2008.
However, expect German Pro Tour qualifier Hopp to at least bag himself a set, a feat he has managed on both of his previous trips to the biggest darts tournament in the world.
Jackpot is overwhelming favourite to topple Pallett, at 1/16, and is an equally unappealing price at 8/11 to win in straight sets. For such a heavy scorer though, the odds on him winning the 180 race is far more appealing.
Lewis has hit 29 maximums in each of the last two World Championships, averaging six-per-match on his way to the semi-finals last year.
Should he reach anywhere close to that figure this time around it’ll be far too much for Pallett to live with.
