PDC World Darts: Count on Cristo to take sets off great Scot

Published:

The PDC Darts World Championship is proving as thrilling as ever, with well-backed duo Ian White and Kevin Painter the latest fancies joining a surprisingly long list of arrowmen to fall by the wayside quicker than expected.

Saying that, we’re already at the last-16 stage. Here are our three best bets for the first third-round clashes.

Peter Wright to beat Andy Hamilton 4-1 @ 3/1

Last year’s beaten finalist is proving his 2014 efforts were no fluke, with the colourful Scot dropping just one set in two matches so far, and at that against useful world number 36 Ronny Huybrechts in the last round.

Number 12 seed Hamilton’s journey to the last 16 has proved much more eventful, coming back from 2-1 down against unfancied Canadian Dave Richardson in the first round, before pulling off the same trick when behind to equally-obscure Australian Kyle Anderson, winning 4-2 eventually.

There’s probably a set in the Stoke flinger against Wright, but not much more.

Cristo Reyes to beat Gary Anderson with a 2.5-set handicap @ 6/4

Unknown Spaniard Reyes has done Spanish darts the world of good by beating 13th and 20th seeds Wes Newton and Painter so far, as well Christian Perez 4-0 in the preliminaries prior to seeing off the former.

His journey looks set to end here against number four seed Anderson, but the Scot had to rally last time out against Jelle Klaasen before eventually winning 4-3, so there’s hope for ‘The Spartan’ yet.

Phil Taylor to beat Kim Huybrechts 4-0 @ 9/4

It may be boring and obvious to tip up the 14-time PDC world champion’s whitewash, but it’s probably profitable.

Taylor is yet to drop a set so far in this year’s competition, whereas the younger Huybrechts gave up three last time out, admittedly against number 15 seed White.

The Belgian will do well to take a few legs of ‘The Power’.
