Motherwell contender Solano still a good shout for Newcastle job

Nolberto Solano’s desire to follow in the footsteps of fellow ex-players like Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink back into British football as a manager could see the Peruvian appointed at Motherwell or Hartlepool in the future while a Newcastle United move cannot be ruled out.
That’s the assessment offered by Ladbrokes with the bookmaker pricing Motherwell at 5/1 to be the South American’s next club following reports linking the former Magpies and West Ham favourite with a return to these shores in a managerial capacity.
The 39-year-old has already been interviewed regarding the current vacancy at the Scottish club following the departure of Stuart McCall, with the Daily Mail indicating the move could be subject to a successful takeover from an Argentinean consortium.
Meanwhile, in the same interview, the ex-Toon midfielder admitted he was keen on moving into management in the UK and would also be open to the idea of taking the reins at Hartlepool – the club where he finished his career.
“I’ve been coaching in Peru, coaching in Canada, so now I’m just trying to come back into the UK, looking for a chance, looking for an opportunity,” he said.
“Hartlepool would be a why not? It is an opportunity. It is a really difficult time for the club, but it’s a challenge.”
A move into the Monkey Hangers hotseat remains something of an outside bet according to Ladbrokes, however, with the north east club a distant 16/1 to be Solano’s next club while a move into the Peru national team managers job looks unlikely.
Fellow former Premier League legend Paulo Wanchope is currently in charge of Costa Rica but Solano looks unlikely to follow suit with a move into the Incas post on at 25/1 with Ladbrokes.
But those Toon fans dreaming of a return for the man who made some 314 appearances for the Tyneside club over two spells can be hopeful of him following ex-teammate Alan Shearer into the dugout with Ladbrokes pricing the Peruvian at 4/1 to become Newcastle manager in the future.
