Middlesbrough v Derby: Former Rams tyro the pick of 3 best bets

Published:

Two of the Championship’s in-form teams square off when leaders Derby travel to the Riverside to face fourth-placed Middlesbrough, who can leapfrog their visitors with any kind of home win.

The stats suggest it will be ever so tight though. Here are our three best bets.

Patrick Bamford to score at any time @ 19/10

It almost seems already written that the on-loan Chelsea youngster will make the scoresheet against a side he bagged eight goals for in 21 Championship games last term.

Bamford has been rewarding anytime-goal backers handsomely over recent weeks, scoring in five of Middlesbrough’s past six fixtures.

Jelle Vossen may be seen as the hosts’ in-form striker, having bagged a hat-trick in the 5-1 win at Millwall, but those were the Belgian’s first efforts since moving on loan from Genk in September.

Bamford needs just one more to match his tally from last term already, which makes the 21-year-old the go-to goal guy.

Score draw @ 10/3

Boro’s three matches prior to their thrashing of Millwall at The Den last time out all ended level, with two of those games seeing both sides get off the mark.

Furthermore, four of Karanka’s men’s last six home outings saw the points split and three of those were score draws.

No Derby match has finished honours even since the start of October, but with the teams difficult to split, a share of the spoils while each gets among the goals looks the best way to play.

Over 2.5 goals @ 17/20

When Boro aren’t drawing they’re usually winning well, with their four victories since mid-October coming in matches featuring three or more strikes.

Six of Derby’s seven triumphs over the same time period have also seen the 2.5 goal-line vaulted, so this bet looks safe.
