Meet the two men charged with saving Crystal Palace’s season

Crystal Palace are on the brink of a potentially season-saving double swoop, according to reports.

Eagles boss Neil Warnock is in desperate need of a strike and also in the market for defensive reinforcements and believes deals can be struck for Swansea’s Bafetimbi Gomis and Lille defender Pape Souare.

According to newspaper reports, Warnock is in advanced talks with both the Welsh club and the French outfit and believes he can wrap up his business early on in the transfer window.

The Selhurst Park club aren’t exactly sitting on a transfer war chest, so it is understood that Warnock will look to take Gomis on loan from the Liberty Stadium with a view to a permanent signing in the summer.

However, at around £2.5m 24-year-old Senegal international Souare is more affordable and with the Ligue 1 outfit also counting the pennies (or cents) Warnock hopes a cut-price deal can be struck.

Warnock had been interested in luring Ashley Cole back to England, with the former Chelsea man out of favour at Roma, but after the players’ agent scoffed at any deal attention has turned to the Lille man.

Defeat against Manchester City over the weekend means Palace currently sit above the relegation zone on goal difference alone, having won just one of their last 10 games and scoring just 19 goals this season.

If Warnock wants to see odds of 11/8 on a Palace relegation drift then signings of this nature are a must over the coming weeks.
