Manchester United to step up interest in Fiorentina ace

Manchester United are poised to renew their interest in Colombian wing wizard Juan Cuadrado with the 26-year-old reportedly growing frustrated at a lack of playing time at Fiorentina.

The Red Devils were among a host of clubs, including Barcelona, keeping tabs on the winger in the summer after an impressive showing at the World Cup in Brazil. But with Fiorentina reluctant to sell the asking price was baulked at by both the Red Devils and the Catalan giants.

However, United manager Louis van Gaal is expected to step up his interest in the coming weeks after the player revealed he is fed up with life in Florence and is seeking more game time and a change of scenery.

Cuadrado has not completed 90 minutes in any of La Viola’s last six matches, either starting on the bench or making way during games, and the lack of playing time could pave the way for a move to the Premier League.

United will hope that the player’s desire to move will force the Italian club’s hand and Van Gaal is looking to wrap up a cut-price deal when the transfer window re-opens next month.

The Dutchman is again likely to face a battle for the winger’s services, with Barca manager Luis Enrique said to still be interested.

Having won six games on the bounce, United have seen their odds on a title win fall from 40/1 at the end of November to just 12/1 after the weekend’s 3-0 win over Liverpool, but Van Gaal is still not convinced by his wide men and wants to provide the likes of Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia with top class competition.

With 19 goals from 80 league outings from Fiorentina the Colombian seems more than capable of doing just that.
