Hipster Tipster: Wolfsburg, Ajax and Sporting Lisbon looking good

Published:

Having ditched my other half’s plans for shopping at a new German Christmas market in town, it’s important to remember the Latin “amor vincit omnia” or love conquers all and how it relates to the latest 11:30am Eredivisie clash.

Dutch football is something of a forbidden love of mine – forbidden in the sense that most people tell me to turn it off or just fall asleep – and I’m fully embracing it this week.

The wooden clogs are coming on, I’ve ordered a shed-load of tulips and I’ve even set up a personal fan next to my telly to serve as a windmill. Ajax are the order of the day with the Amsterdam side leading our sixfold.

With more bankers than an inner city branch of Slug and Lettuce, read on to see why my clogs will be a-clicking come Sunday evening.

Ajax to beat Utrecht @ 1/4

Having secured a place on my television on Thursday nights from next year in the Europa League with a 4-0 win over APOEL, Ajax will surely brush aside an Utrecht team that has won just one of their last four and were hammered 4-2 at home by Heracles last time out.

Sevilla to beat Eibar @ 4/9

Another side remaining on ITV4 in 2015, Sevilla secured a fourth win on the bounce in midweek thanks to a goal for Jose Antonio Reyes – remember him? No, me neither. Anyway, Eibar have lost two of their last three away games and should be no match for the mighty Andalusians.

PSG to beat Guingamp @ 9/20

Zlatan was not happy to lose against his former club Barcelona but Zlatan will make Guingamp pay, with their mid-table opponents likely to be tired after some midweek Europa League endeavours. PSG have taken 22 points from the last 24 in Ligue 1. In Zlatan we trust.

Wolfsburg to beat Paderborn @ 2/5

The Wolves had a howling good time against Lille in midweek, winning 3-0 away to extend their winning run to three games and poor winless-in-four Paderborn could be in trouble against their star-studded hosts and Nicklas Bendtner. You heard me.

Fiorentina to beat Cesena @ 8/15

La Viola picked up a great point away at Juventus last weekend to finally shut the Old Lady up and will be expected to see off a Cesena side that has failed to win since way back in August. Fiorentina, by contrast, have taken seven points from the last nine offered in Serie A.

Sporting Lisbon to beat Moreirense @ 3/10

Nani and the gang failed to get past Jose Mourinho last week and will have to contend with lesser European football next year but should still have enough to see off Moreirense in Lisbon with their opponents losing their last two games away from home and shipping six goals in the process.
