Fleur East’s Top 5 Finest X Factor Moments

After a slow start to the X Factor Fleur East has gone from strength to strength each week and despite a brief surge from Ben Haenow she goes into this weekend’s live final as the odds-on favourite to win.

It’s not the first time East has been on the show – she was booted off in week one as part of girl group Addictiv Ladies back in 2005 – and while Chico got the better of her then she looks primed to have the last laugh at 4/11.

Haenow is the second favourite at 13/5, while Andrea Faustini’s fall from grace sees him billed as the 14/1 outsider.

So, with Fleur set to be crowned X Factor queen we’re beating Dermot to it by showing her finest moments so far …

Started with a bang … bang

Despite her featuring in the show previously Simon didn’t remember her and the jury was out in the early stages.

However, when a performance was required she nailed Jessie J’s ‘Bang Bang’ at the Judges’ Houses stage – including a word-perfect rendition of Nicki Minaj’s rap – and went through to the live shows as “by far the best” of the overs.

A solid bass

Fleur may have played it safe in week one with a cover of Meghan Trainor smash All About That Bass and while the song did little to show off her vocal range her performance left everyone in little doubt that she was a ready-made pop star.

The look, the dance moves, the cheeky winks into the crowd … it was all there and Cowell had that all-too-familiar cha-ching look in his eyes.

No shame in her game

X Factor winners tend to lean towards the gushy, ballady style – think Leona Lewis, Sam Bailey etc – and attempts to move into a grittier space have failed in the past – think Misha B, Cher Lloyd, The Risk etc.

However, Fleur proved that you can rap and sing and still have mass appeal with this take on the Monie Love hit …

She’ll be there … until the end

Choosing the song from the end credits of Free Willy may have seemed an odd choice but in singing Michael Jackson’s Will You Be There Fleur showed there’s more to her than just high-energy dancing displays.

Eschewing elaborative coreography in favour of simply standing to deliver behind a mic, the Walthamstow lass proved she has the voice, as well as the moves, to go all the way.

Fleur followed up that understated performance in week eight with another stripped back song in Alicia Keys’ If I Ain’t Got You.

With the days counting down to Christmas her mentor Cowell knows how to press all the emotional buttons and this proved an inspired song choice.

Expect more of the same when she undoubtedly releases her first single as winner before a follow up album that promises to be a lot more fun!
