FIFA Club World Cup win makes Real Madrid worthy bet for further treble

Published:

After securing a 22nd consecutive victory in all competitions last Saturday with a 2-0 victory over San Lorenzo at the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, it’s shaping up to be a sensational season for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos can now be backed at 11/1 with Ladbrokes to win top honours in La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Champions League as part of a sensational quadruple last achieved by bitter rivals Barcelona back in 2009.

It marks a stark contrast to the early season worries at the club, which came after Real lost the Spanish Super Cup to Atletico Madrid before suffering back-to-back league defeats to Atleti and later Real Sociedad.

But since then Cristiano Ronaldo has inspired the team to reach new heights with the Portuguese star scoring 32 goals in just 25 appearances in all competitions, including 25 goals in La Liga alone.

Drawn against an inconsistent Schalke side who have already been hammered 5-0 at home by Chelsea in the group phase of the Champions League, Real Madrid look well-placed to progress in Europe.

More importantly, with the club one point clear of second-placed Barcelona with a game in hand, the odds of Champions League and La Liga double look tempting at 7/2 with the bookmaker.

Some may fancy Barcelona and recent signing Luis Suarez to find their feet in the league, leaving Real to celebrate a European and Spanish cup double but approach such a bet with caution.

Ladbrokes is offering 7/1 on Real Madrid repeating their feat of last season with

silverware success in the Champions League and Copa del Rey but with Atletico Madrid awaiting Los Blancos in the next round, they will need to be at their very best to progress.

Meanwhile, those sceptical of Real doing what has never been done before and retaining the Champions League, odds of 9/4 are offered on the Spanish club claiming a domestic double.

Whatever the case, it’s fast shaping up to be the year of Los Merengues.
