Aston Villa v Manchester United: Red Devils win streak to continue

Published:

Manchester United have rode their luck in recent weeks, their six-game win streak flattering the Red Devils slightly, but Louis van Gaal’s men will be more convincing at Villa Park.

While Southampton were the better side and Liverpool missed a hatful of chances against United, Villa will prove less formidable opposition as the recent meetings between the two sides suggest.

United have won the last seven clashes and have lost just once against the Villans in 11 meetings, meaning they even secured a convincing double in the dark days of David Moyes’ reign.

As such, the visitors go into Saturday’s match as the 4/7 favourites, with the draw on at 3/1 and Villa priced at 5/1 to pick up a first win since December 2009.

However, James Curtis has trawled through the 100+ markets available on the game to find three better-value picks.

Manchester United (-2) to win @ 18/5

With United unattractively priced for an away fixture (they’ve won just twice on the road this term) it could pay to visit the handicap markets in order to find bigger returns.

A -2 handicap may seem a huge obstacle to overcome, but bear in mind that Villa are the lowest scoring side in the league – with just 10 goals from 16 games – and United have won by three goals or more in four of the last five meetings.

United to win to nil @ 31/20

For those less confident in United’s ability to smash at least three goals past their hosts the win to nil market could tempt.

As mentioned, Villa’s troubles in front of goal this season are well documented, and despite the visitors struggling at times in defence this term the returns of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones have provided some new-found stability.

United have won four of the last six meetings without being breached and as such look a good price to do the same here – especially with David de Gea in outstanding form.

Robin van Persie to score first @ 4/1 (or anytime @ evens)

Radamel Falcao is back fit and raring for a first team opportunity and this may be the reason for Van Persie’s new-found form.

The Dutchman scored both goals in the recent win over Southampton and sealed the 3-0 victory over Liverpool to take his tally to 10 for the season and five from his last six outings.

RVP netted a hat-trick in a 3-0 against the Villans in 2013 and will be the Red Devils’ attacking focal point at Villa Park.
