West Brom boosted to end Newcastle streak but concede

Published:

In-form Newcastle travel to West Brom on Sunday looking to extend their four-match unbeaten streak, but the Baggies aren’t in bad shape themselves and will have other ideas altogether.

In fact, West Brom have been boosted to win at the Hawthorns in a game where both teams score, from 3/1 out to 4/1,and this rates a real tempter when the evidence is weighed up.

Firstly, neither team have had any trouble finding the net of late. Newcastle haven’t been kept out of the onion bag in their last five, and West Brom their last six in all competitions.

Secondly, aside from the last time these sides met – when the Geordies were defeated 1-0 back in January in the west Midlands – the previous 13 contests have witnessed goals at both ends.

Meanwhile, West Brom have only turned in one clean sheet in their last five, so the scope for goals at both ends is particularly high.

But the goal-filled action does not stop there.

Four of the hosts five home games in the Premier League this season have seen the 3.5 goals mark breached, while only a 2-0 loss to Everton didn’t pierce the 2.5 goals line.

Encouraging for this bet, Alan Irvine’s side have won two of those matches as well as holding Manchester United and drawing with Crystal Palace, so Newcastle are in for a thorough examination.

Of course, the key to victory could well lie with England’s latest striking addition Saido Berahino, called up to the Three Lions squad for the first time by Roy Hodgson after blasting seven top-flight goals already this term.
