Sunderland v Everton: Toffees to edge low-scoring affair

Published:

Everton maintained their unbeaten run in the Europa League with an impressive 3-0 win over Lille in midweek but don’t expect the goals to flow when they visit the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

The Toffees and the Black Cats are in the midst of a run of hard-fought games with all of the last four clashes being decided by a single goal.

Everton are the favourites to claim all three points this time round at 21/20, while the hosts can be backed at 13/5 and the draw is on at 5/2.

Ladbrokes News’ James Curtis has scanned the 100+ markets available on the game, however, to bring you three of the bets.

Steven Naismith to score first @ 11/2 (or anytime at 8/5)

With Samuel Eto’o and Romelu Lukaku on the books many thought Naismith would be the forgotten man at Goodison Park this year but the Scotsman refuses to slide into the shadows.

He scored in the Toffees opening three games of the campaign and has now struck six times this term for club and country.

While Lukaku and Eto’o have been left wanting Naismith has seized his opportunities with aplomb and netted last time out against Lille, so expect another strike here.

Under 2.5 goals

As mentioned above, recent meetings between the two have been decided by a single goal, with the last three meetings all being taken by a 1-0 scoreline.

In fact, seven of the last nine clashes have yielded under 2.5 goals and with the Black Cats likely to concentrating on defence this could be another frustrating afternoon for goal lovers.

Everton to win 1-0 @ 7/1

With Everton not offering a working man’s price for the win, the better value lies in predicting a fourth 1-0 result on the spin.

Granted the 1-0 scorelines haven’t always gone in the Toffees favour, but with the hosts winning just two of their last nine outings it pays to back an away win this time round.
