How much could Spurs eke out of Real Madrid for their latest target

Every time Tottenham seem to have a world-class player on their hands, Real Madrid pop along with cash in hand to tempt Daniel Levy’s love of profit into making a deal.
First there was Luka Modric, who the Lilywhites have never been able to replace despite seemingly trialling half the sport’s central midfielders in the role, then Gareth Bale was sold for that world-record fee.
On both occasions Spurs made a tidy profit from the sale, so the news that Hugo Lloris, their latest gem, is wanted by the La Liga giants is likely to get Levy’s nose for a deal twitching with excitement.
Clues on exactly how much the 9/1 top-four strugglers could sell the French stopper for perhaps lie in the club’s previous Madrid deals.
Modric was signed as the first of Juande Ramos’ north London stint in 2008, for a then club-record-equalling fee of £16.5m.
His pivotal play in central midfield saw him flourish into one of the finest on the globe, prompting Chelsea to offer £40m for the Croat in August 2011.
Almost a year to the day later Levy sold Modric to Real Madrid for a fee £7m less than Chelsea’s offering, but used the deal to embark on a “partnership” with Los Blancos that later led to Bale’s move and this Lloris interest.
Levy also made a now renowned £85.3m from selling the former Southampton youth to the reigning Champions League winners, quite the mark-up on the £10m he paid when signing Bale in 2007.
So with a precedent for fleecing the Spanish giants under the guise of a “partnership”, Lloris could easily fetch £30m or more considering he’s comfortably the Lilywhites’ best player, cost them £11m from Lyon two years ago and is under contract until 2019.
