Snakebite a cracking price to strike in Players Championship Finals
The arrows are getting sharpened as the finest darts players in the land converge Butlins, Minehead for the Players Championship Finals, the final major televised event before the World Championship extravaganza.
You’d do well to find an event where Phil Taylor hasn’t enjoyed success in recent years, and it goes without saying that the Power has been strong in the six renewals to date, winning twice and a runner-up one other time.
But at 9/4, there is little juice in the price to get involved in the market leader.
Even Michael van Gerwen (11/4) isn’t a particularly enticing price in such a cut-throat event (best of 11 legs in the First Round).
And with a tough all-Dutch head-to-head against Raymond van Barneveld in the first round, we are looking for a spot of each-way value for the action in Somerset.
Since nearly going all the way at Alexandra Palace last January, Peter Wright seems to have become somewhat of a forgotten man.
And you could certainly get a lot of Snakebite by taking the price of 25/1 available with Ladbrokes.
The Scot is drawn against relative rookie Benito van de Pas in the First Round, with a prospective draw against Andy Hamilton or Vincent van der Voort on offer in the second stage.
In all reality the world number four should be beating any of those three on his best form.
He would actually avoid any of the top three in the world rankings until at least the semi-finals, by which point it’s fair to assume Wright will have built up a head of steam.
The 44-year-old went out in the Second Round against Phil Taylor in a scrappy match last year, after reaching the quarter finals 12 months previously.
But the improvement since then has been telling. He was ranked 48 at the start of 2012, and 27 in 2013, but entering this campaign in the top five in the world means he could be a tempting price to reach the final at least this time round.
