Three reasons the wheels have come off at Leicester City

After five games of the Premier League season, Leicester City already seemed to have the top-flight cracked, having picked up an excellent eight points despite a brutal fixture list.

The Foxes played Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United during their first five matches, with only the Blues able to take three points off Nigel Pearson’s side.

However, since then Leicester have plummeted down the table due to losing four of their next five games, and their odds of 12/5 to be relegated look increasingly tempting.

So what has gone wrong for the Foxes?

Leonardo Ulloa has stopped scoring

A few eyebrows were raised when Leicester paid £8m for the Argentine striker in the summer, but those facial follicles were quickly lowered again when he bagged five in his first five league games.

However, Ulloa last scored in the 5-3 win over Manchester United, a major reason why the Foxes themselves have drawn a blank in four of the five matches since then.

Only three sides in the league have created less chances than Leicester

It is not only Ulloa who is to blame for Leicester’s horrible form in front of goal, as the whole side are struggling to make any kind of impact on opposition defences.

Aston Villa, Swansea and Hull are the only teams who have created fewer opportunities than the Foxes’ 75, and with their strikers hardly proving clinical with the meagre amount of chances they have been given, it is not surprising that goals are hard to come by.

The Foxes’ defence has kept just one clean sheet all season

Leicester’s attack could do with facing a defence as generous as their own, as Pearson’s backline have conceded in all but one of their 10 league games this term.

Paul Konchesky is the only member of the Foxes’ first choice backline who boasts significant Premier League experience, and the centre-back pairing of veteran Wes Morgan and youngster Liam Moore have struggled with the level of play in top-flight.
