Real Madrid’s Lloris bid spells bad news for Newcastle

Published:

The sale of a player from one club to another can often set off a domino-effect in the transfer market, as fans have seen on countless occasions over the years.

And with Real Madrid reportedly taking an interest in Tottenham’s £20m-rated goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, a similar situation could well unfold in the next few months as Spurs look to secure the services of an adequate replacement for the France international.

The bad news for Newcastle United fans is that the Lilywhites may have already identified that man to fill any Lloris-shaped hole in their side – Tim Krul.

A Holland international with a burgeoning reputation in the game following his penalty shoot-out heroics for the Oranje against Costa Rica at the World Cup, the 26-year-old ticks all the boxes when it comes to finding a replacement for their current no.1

An experienced Premier League performer who has previously impressed in the Europa League with the Magpies, Krul comes highly regarded as arguably one of the five best goalkeepers plying their trade in the English top-flight.

And the painful reality for Newcastle fans is that, should Spurs come calling, the club will undoubtedly be willing to sell – provided the price is right.

If Real are willing to pay over the odds for Lloris, then Tottenham should have more than enough money in any potential transfer kitty to prise the Toon favourite away from his club.

With Spurs boasting plenty of ambition in their ongoing pursuit of a top four finish, Krul could well see the move as a step in the right direction – even if he ultimately only opt to stay at the club for a couple of seasons.

Any move for Krul could ultimately hinge of the form of Newcastle and Tottenham in the coming months, with the Magpies on something of an upward trajectory while the north London club were, in truth, lucky to arrest a recent run of poor form with a late 2-1 comeback win over Aston Villa.

Finish above Spurs and Toon fans should feel confident of keeping hold of the Dutchman but finish below and we could well see significant developments in the coming month.
