OHL Classic at Mayakoba: Stroud to find form at favoured course

Published:

The PGA Tour dips down to the exotic setting of El Camaleón Golf Club at the Mayakoba Resort in México next, and we’re tipping one of the FedExCup’s most consistent performers of last season to come good in Central America.

American Chris Stroud has been through a bit of a sticky period of late, but as you’ll see from our three best bets for the tournament, we’re expecting a resurgent display south of the border.

Chris Stroud to finish in the top five @ 7/1

You have to go back four tournaments to find the last top-20 finish on Stroud’s Tour card, but that looks set to change in Mayakoba.

There is something about the stunning 6,987-yard Greg Norman-designed track which really plays to Stroud’s strengths, as he’s registered top-five finishes in all of his three previous appearances.

Owning a short game which ranks inside the PGA Tour’s top 20 for scrambling, total birdies and total putts certainly helps and following his finest season yet, Stroud is a very attractive bet in this market.

Robert Strebb to finish in the top 10 at 2/1

The early leader in the FedExCup standings, the McGladrey Classic champion has claimed three top 10s in as many starts this season and looks great value to go well again in Mexico.

Rory Sabbatini to finish in the top 10 @ 3/1

The South African rates a fantastic dabble in this market as well. He’s started the season very strongly, coming off T22 (McGladrey) and T8 at the CIMB Classic.

He actually features at the top of the PGA Tour website’s Power Rankings for this event, and mainly because his only top-five finish in the past two seasons was a tied third here at the OHL Classic in 2013.
