Newcastle after points and star striker when they visit Burnley

Newcastle head to Burnley in the Premier League next and the man they will be most wary of shackling at Turf Moor could soon be turning out in black and white himself.

Danny Ings has bagged four top-flight goals in his last five Clarets appearances, but his current deal with the Lancashire club runs out in June 2015.

Having rediscovered the scoring touch which propelled Burnley to promotion last season, the 22-year-old Englishman’s delicate contract situation has got other Premier League clubs sniffing.

But it is Burnley’s next guest to Turfmoor – where Ings is the 5/1 market leader to open the scoring against Newcastle – who appear to have been most proactive in their inquiries.

When quizzed about Ings prior to the match, Alan Pardew remained cautious with his rhetoric but intimated he had still been very impressed with the goal-getter linked with Liverpool during the summer.

Pardew said: “In Ings they have a player who is impressing at the moment.”

Newcastle had been on a fantastic run of form before bumping into West Ham just days before their midweek match with Sean Dyche’s struggling side.

However, Pardew’s need for January reinforcements such as Ings have been highlighted by the patched-up squad he has available for the clash.

Tim Krul is out until mid January, while skipper Fabricio Coloccini and Rolando Aarons have not travelled to the north west.

Full-backs Massadio Haidara, Daryl Janmaat and Mike Williamson are doubts and Moussa Sissoko and Jack Colback are suspended.

Ings may never get a better chance to impress his suitors in this vein of form, given the decimation to Newcastle’s first-choice back five.
