Murray must be backed after favourable ATP Tour Finals draw

Available at a tempting 11/2 to win the ATP World Tour Finals later this month, the time to back an Andy Murray victory is most definitely now.
The 27-year-old may have garnered criticism for weighing into the debate surrounding Scottish Independence earlier this year, but partisan national politics aside, we really should be cheering Murray … all the way to the bank
This new-found confidence in the Scot comes after the world no.6 benefitted from a favourable draw for the Greenwich event that saw him avoid his Paris Masters conqueror Novak Djokovic.
Instead, Murray will face-off against Milos Raonic, Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori in a grouping that should leave the 2013 Wimbledon champion feeling confident about his chances.
The Canadian may head to the O2 having seen Murray off with a 2-1 win at Indian Wells earlier this year, but with Raonic coming to the end-of-year tournament for the first time, the Scot’s experience could be key.
Murray reached the semi-finals last time he competed in the ATP Tour Finals and will be confident of another fine showing, following title wins at the Shenzhen Open, Vienna Open and Valencia Open that helped end a 14-month title drought in some style.
In Kei Nishikori, meanwhile, the former SW19 champ faces an opponent he has beaten in each of their previous three meetings while even the traditionally invincible Federer is behind 12-11 to Murray in the head-to-head victories.
Novak Djokovic, winner in the last two years, remains the 10/11 favourite to win the event and boasts a superior 15-8 record against Murray, but then we all remember what happened the last time the two met in the capital.
The Serbian’s fellow group opponents, meanwhile face a battle to progress with Marin Cilic and Stan Wawrinka most likely battling it out to progress to the last four, with little hope for Tomas Berdych.
