Meet 3 West Brom stars good enough for England’s next squad

Published:

It may not be Roy Hodgson’s go-to method of picking his England squads but the Premier League’s official player ranking index should at least make the Three Lions boss take serious heed of three West Brom hopefuls.

Based on performance data compiled for the Premier League by EA Sports, the gaming company have just released their version of a balanced England squad and team using player stats so far this season.

Although Hodgson will be fairly content with Euro 2016 qualifying progress so far, where his table-topping Three Lions are 3/10 to beat Slovenia in their next engagement, there’s plenty of food for thought in the mock-up squad.

The shock absentees from a provisional starting XI based on top-flight data are Joe Hart and Wayne Rooney.

However, while these two are shoo-ins regardless, for a club such as West Brom, who many had touted for relegation before the season, three inclusions in the squad as well as one in the team is a massive coup for the club.

Ben Foster (squad)

Already a member of England’s World Cup party this summer, the eight-capped Baggies stopper is enjoying a well-earned return to vogue in what has been a topsy-turvy club career.

Saido Berahino (team)

It’s of little surprise that the top-scoring Englishman in the Premier League actually makes it into EA Sports’ starting line-up.

A certain future full international, Berahino has fired his way to seven league goals already this term, earning him the highest points index of any member of the mock squad.

Craig Dawson (squad)

After being farmed out on loan to Championship side Bolton last season, the England U21 regular has seized his opportunities with both hands under new manager Alan Irvine.

Dawson looks to have every attribute needed to become a top centre-back and even scores the odd goal. His man-of-the-match performance at home to Manchester United was his coming of age.
