Meet 3 Iceland stars with potential Premier League futures

Published:

Iceland’s place on the football map looks increasingly like being etched in indelible ink after a flawless start to Euro 2016 qualification which sees the relative minnows topping Group A.

Ahead of their crucial top-of-the-table clash in the Czech Republic, where Iceland are the big 18/5 outsiders, we’ve sieved through the squads promising stocks to pick out three potential Premier League stars of the future.

Alfreo Finnbogason – Real Sociedad – Striker

David Moyes is in for a treat when he discovers this prolific striker among his ranks at Real Sociedad.

He might not have hit his La Liga stride as yet, but 115 goals in 191 senior appearances, including 53 in 65 at last club Heerenveen, is a fantastic record for the 25-year-old, who has four international goals to his name.

Jon Daoi Bodvarsson – Viking – Striker

Still only 22, this right winger looks to have the world at his feet. Bodvarsson has started every one of
Iceland’s three victories in qualifying so far and opened his international account against Turkey.

Currently playing his football in the Norwegian Premier League, the tricky wide man is sure to stir much interest if he carries on being picked by coach Lars Lagerback.

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson – Ajax – Striker

Iceland’s number nine was another to find his way onto the scoresheet in their demolition of Turkey in Reykjavik.
Sigthorsson is part of Ajax’s all-conquering Eredevisie side of the past four seasons, where his goal scoring
record isn’t far off a goal every two games.

A susceptibility to injuries could be the only thing which hamper another big move for the 24-year-old centre-forward later in his career.
