Why it’s destination Leeds United for Burton boss Hasselbaink

Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink may have only just rocked up at the Pirelli Stadium but here at Ladbrokes we like to stay one step ahead of the competition, which is why we’re already plotting he Dutchman’s next move.

A one-time Holland international with spells at Leeds United, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Middlesbrough under his belt, the 42-year-old is relishing the chance to move into management.

“I’m very excited to join Burton Albion and follow in the footsteps of Gary Rowett and Nigel Clough,” he told the official Burton Albion website.

“I’m looking forward to working with the players. Until now they have done really well and I’m looking to take them a step further. I have seen quite a bit of them and I’m excited to be working with a talented group.”

The Brewers are currently sixth in League Two and available at 7/5 for promotion, with a move up to League One likely to see a few other teams taking a closer look at Hasselbaink.

With three permanent managers appointed already this season, it’s not much of a shock to see the Dutchman’s first English club Leeds United emerge as the most likely destination for the 42-year-old out of all his former employers.

Ladbrokes has priced the Whites at 7/2 to be Hasselbaink’s next side, though the next team in the running is perhaps a little more surprising – Charlton.

The Addicks are available at 5/1 to be the Dutchman’s first post-Burton destination with the London club presided over by three different managers in the past 12 months.

Having most recently appointed the young and unknown Bob Peeters, the one-time Premier League club have shown they are not afraid of taking a risk either when it comes to achieving success.

Rounding off the top three are Middlesbrough, with current Teesiders boss Aitor Karanka tipped up for bigger and better things after helping Boro enjoy a fantastic start to the season in the Championship.

The north east club can be backed at 8/1 to be the one-time AZ Alkmaar forward’s next employers, while Cardiff are available at 10/1 – though don’t rule out a move to the Bluebirds with the ever-eccentric Vincent Tan in charge.

Hasselbaink may have to wait a little longer for a move to one of his Champions League clubs however, with Chelsea on at 12/1 to be his next club while Atletico Madrid are a distant 16/1.

For now though, let’s hope Hasselbaink can impress in League Two, with his first Burton assignment a trip to face fellow promotion chasers Wycombe on Monday night.
