Is in-form Spurs star the next in line for a full England debut?

If the England U21s are a mirror image of the senior side, then you can expect the five-game winning streak Roy Hodgson’s side have been enjoying of late to end against Scotland.

Under the charge of former Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate, the understudies had also won their previous five games before they took the field to battle France in an U21 friendly, but were unable to extend the run to six as they wound up losing 3-2.

Despite the defeat, it’s becoming abundantly clear that the future of English football is sitting on solid foundations, with both Hodgson and Southgate’s side built on impressive young talent.

Nathaniel Clyne, Ross Barkley, Raheem Sterling, Calum Chambers and Luke Shaw are all under the age of 25 and are at varying points of the beginning of their international careers.

Another youngster, Southgate’s reliable U21 goalscorer Saido Berahino, is set to join the list at Celtic Park, where he is rated at 13/5 to mark his debut with a goal.

So with the path between the youth setup and the senior side as clear as at any point in recent memory, there must be a few of Southgate’s current crop that fancy their chances of a full cap in the near future.

Harry Kane should certainly be one of them have bagged both of England’s goals in the French loss, taking his tally to 10 strikes in as many games for the Young Lions.

Another, considering the dearth of centre-backs available to the senior Three Lions, would be defensive pairing Jamaal Lascelles and Liam Moore who have formed a regular partnership at the heart of Southgate’s defence.

Moore would perhaps be ahead of his teammate in the queue for a full cap, considering he is playing in the top flight with Leicester while Lascelles is on loan at Nottingham Forest from Newcastle.
