I’m A Celebrity: Mel Sykes surges to head of market

Melanie Sykes has surged to the head of this year’s I’m A Celebrity market after revealing a fearless side in the show’s first challenge.
The Model/TV presenter put camp-mate Jimmy Bullard to shame by getting stuck in the hell hole challenges, risking crab pinches and crocodile bites to retrieve a series of scrabble tiles needed in order to ‘rescue’ one of the contestants locked up in the ‘Celebrity Slammer’.
Bullard, the early favourite to win the show, cowered at the thought of putting his hands in and left Mel to retrieve all but one of the tiles.
As a result, Sykes has been cut to 9/4 to be the overall winner of the show and is the overwhelming favourite in the Top Female category at 1/3.
Bullard remains second favourite overall, but has drifted from 7/4 to 10/3, and is available at 6/4 to be crowned Top Male.
The former Wigan footballer is set to take part in a bushtucker trial later today and will be given the chance to redeem himself.
The first trial, however, was completed with ease last night by World Superbike ace Carl Fogarty.
Foggy was released from the slammer and instantly forced to take part in a Snakes in a Drain challenge, which saw him share a wet, shallow grave with 40 snakes for 12 minutes.
He breezed through the challenges, wining all six stars, and can now be backed at 6/1 to go on to win the show.
TOWIE star Gemma Collins was another getting plenty of air time in the show’s opening episode, but for all the wrong reasons.
The bubbly blonde refused to fly in a helicopter to get to camp and was instead made to walk but even that proved “too much”, with the Essex girl threatening to quit before she even made it to camp.
Collins may already be winding up her fellow camp-mates, but the public will no doubt relish watching her squirm, so she could represent good value at 14/1.
